About Us

The Barwon Valley Woodwrights was incorporated in June 1988 by a small group of people who shared the common passion of working with wood.

The objectives of the club are to "Foster, Encourage, and Maintain"
the interest of members, visitors, and friends.

We have members who are very experienced and skilled, right down
to those just starting out and testing the waters. Everyone is treated with the same respect no matter their level of competence.

Meetings are held at the Gordon Institute of TAFE G block in East Geelong      at 7:00pm, on the 1st and 3rd Mondays of each month, except December and January.

On the 1st Monday of each month the meeting takes the form of an information sharing evening where members discuss any item of interest. The Committee through the Chairperson, advises members of forthcoming events and any decisions made by the Committee on behalf of the club.     The meeting concludes with members displaying their completed monthly wooden  project.

On the 3rd Monday, the evening becomes a "Hands on" night where College approved members may use the woodwork machinery. Other members under the guidance of the approved club members may use the minor machines.

Picture Some of our more experienced members also demonstrate
their expertise in the art of Woodturning which certainly makes it look
easy, but all members are encouraged to have a go.
Focus groups are developing to build skills in Turning, Box making, Toy making etc.
Woodworking disciplines we cover in an effort to share our knowledge and experience are Woodturning, Wood Carving, Pyrography, Furniture Making, Toy Making, and many others.

The club has a number of small lathes and associated equipment and tools. There is also a very extensive library of books, magazines and DVD's which are available for loan to club members.
A number of demonstrations in wood turning are performed at local events throughout the year. These events give us a chance to educate the public in the art, and enables us to advertise our club.

Annual Exhibition

Once a year we hold an exhibition which allows members to display and sell their works. Demonstrations are performed in many disciplines of woodworking, and local suppliers are on hand with their goods for sale, and to answer your questions relating to woodwork.
